Press Release (26 November2007)Scottish Knowhow Impresses RomaniansScottish dairy genetics and knowhow were on the agenda for a party of Romanian farmers who attended AgriScot. Two milk producers and a representative from one of the major players in Romania’s agri-food industry made up the delegation which also went on to visit some of Scotland’s largest Holstein herds. Interferm is part of the agricultural group Interagro. The farm owns 700 Holstein cows on 2000 hectares and has just started a second dairy farm project for 900 cows with the aid of EU funds. Romania joined the EU earlier this year. The farming sector employs around 30% of the population and in recent years has been modernising after years of state control under the Ceausescu regime. The Romanian visitors were impressed with the whole AgriScot event but especially the CIS integrated milk recording service including the ketosis warning system which took second place in the new products competition. The Ayrshire Cattle Society also hosted a group of Finnish farmers at the event. Earlier they had toured Ayrshire herds and were due to attend the Muirston dispersal sale in Ayr.
