Press Release (8 November2007)Romanians And Finns To Visit AgriScotScottish dairy genetics are on the agenda for a party of Romanian farmers who will be attending this month’s AgriScot farm business event. Milk producers and a representative from one of the major players in Romania’s agri-food industry make up the delegation which plans to include visits to some of Scotland’s leading Holstein, Ayrshire and Jersey herds. Interferm is part of the agricultural group Interagro. The farm owns 700 Holstein cows on 2000 hectares and has just started a second dairy farm project for 900 cows with the aid of EU funds. Romania joined the EU earlier this year. The farming sector employs around 30% of the population and in recent years has been modernising after years of state control under the Ceausescu regime. The Ayrshire Cattle Society are hosting a group of Finnish farmers who are touring Ayrshire herds and attending the Muirston dispersal sale in Ayr on the day after a visit to AgriScot.
